JOURNAL ENTRY NO.10 (GENERAL)

Based on the short story book, which short story brings the most impact to you and why.

The short story that brings the most impact to me is Mariah. In Mariah, the story is about Imam who wanted to get marry with Mariah, a widow which resembles his first love. Imam has his wife, Cik Yam which became as a role model housewife in their village. Cik Yam finally gave her permission to Imam for getting married with Mariah. In my opinion, this short story always happened in real time. It is mostly about polygamy which a man can marry until 4 women. I disagree when Imam can get permission from his wife to remarry another woman which was a sexy widow. Why don’t he get marry with other pious woman or single mother or maybe a lady. It could be better. I had an experience which the story same like this. It was a friend of my father which got married with other woman that more sexy than his first wife. Is it the best criteria for a married man to remarry other woman that more socialize and not depend on religion too much? Usually people will talk bad about the marriage and sometimes they will blame the first wife for giving permission to her husband to marry another woman. In the mean time, if I have a husband which wants to get marry with other woman, I will let him divorce me. It is because I cannot bear to share the love with other wives.

JOURNAL ENTRY NO.8 (INEM)

Inem is an example of how badly young children (especially girls) are treated in some societies. Discuss why some societies treat children that way.

Some societies treat young children badly especially girls. Nowadays a lot of cases reported about child abuse. The persons who always using children as places to release their anger or stress might have some mental problems. This is because young children also have their own feelings and they might predict that the persons who abuse them are going crazy. Inem is one example that showed how badly young children been treated. It also showed that the unfair decision that her adult made just to make sure she was married at young age which similar like them. Mostly young children at her age still do not know how to cook, doing house chores and others. After getting married, her husband beat her and a year later she became a widow where her husband divorced her. This usually happen for the young marriage. They didn’t even know how to tolerate each other and always put their partners as the place to release their anger. Some societies also didn’t take full responsibilities in order to help those children. They just know that it doesn’t become matters to them. All societies in all over the world must have some responsibilities towards these children because they will become the next generation that will continue the tradition.

JOURNAL ENTRY NO. 6 (MARIAH)

Choose a character from Mariah. Explain what are the things that you would like to change about the story (or character) and why.

The things from Mariah that I want to change are the endings. For the ending in Mariah, it stated that Imam married with Mariah. But for me, I want to change it. I do not agree that Imam married to Mariah. I feel that Imam has hurting Cik Yam and it cannot be forgiven. Imam as the leader in the family has to think other ways to get child as his heir. Nowadays, there are lots of ways to get children such as doing test tube babies, IVF or adopt a child from poorer family. In Islam, a man can get marry with four wives. As Imam in the village, it is weird an Imam got married with a sexy widow. If Imam got married with other woman which was a lady or a widow that more hardworking and pious than Cik Yam, it can be accepted. In this story, I want Mariah to get marry to other man from town or other villages which will be her relatives or her former schoolmate. If this happen, Imam will not have chance to marry Mariah. After that, Cik Yam then gets pregnant and it’s twins. They live happily and cheerfully. Cik Gu Nab finally knows that Cik Gu Leh prefers eating at Mariah’s rather than eating her cooking. She cannot accept that her cooking had never satisfied her husband. Then, she become regret to what she said to Cik Yam and ask her forgiveness. They become best friends ever.

JOURNAL ENTRY NO.1 (BUGIS)

Everybody pretends. Tell me your own story of pretentiousness. Be honest to yourself.

In my life, I had pretended several times but in this entry I will tell all of you a story of mine. It was about my feelings. Actually I am not a fierce person but sometimes when I am in bad mood, I will be shy for the whole day. I have never screams out loud to other persons when I am in angry. At that time, I was applying a position as a facilitator for orientation week. I had been appointed as a discipline facilitator and it was a nightmare for me. How can I be the most fierce person in front of my juniors? Is it good for me if I always scold them without any reason? All of this questions coming over in my mind. Then, when the orientation week happened, I had to pretend as a discipline facilitator that all my juniors got frightened with me. Every mistake, I gave them punishment. I knew I want to cry when looking at their faces hold the pain when doing the punishment. My intention just only to get them cooperates with each other and become more discipline. In closing ceremony for orientation week, I seek their apologize for scolding them in the whole week and I kept crying when they said to me that it’s ok. That’s my own story of being pretends in front of everyone.
